T Formation Sweep

The T formation is the most basic offense in all of football. If you have no idea what you are doing, or have never coached before. Just install these three to four plays, and you are good. Each week, you can add more. Teams can score a lot of points just running only three T Formation plays. One year the highest scoring team in the league ran basic T Formation and only two plays. This is very similar to Wishbone and you can run any “Wishbone” play out of the T Formation.

T Right

This play is a very simple, yet effective play and it is super easy to learn. This is a T formation with 3 running backs behind the quarterback forming the shape of a “T”.

All three of them take off to the right following one another. The quarterback takes the ball under center, and opens up to the right and gives the ball to the third running back.

You can flip this and make it a T left.

This play is used to set up the next play, which is the fake T right, but the quarterback keeps the ball and runs a naked bootleg left.

We tell the line to block left on the first play, then right on the second play. This should contain the defensive ends and linebackers that are on the play side.

This obviously can also be run out of a Wishbone formation or even with just one or two running backs in the backfield. Be creative.

Notice the quarterback always carries the fake to the opposite side. He hands it off, then continues on his pattern running a fake. This helps set up the next play as well, because they both will look the same.
